This scheme for a new Carbon Neutral "hub" building housing reception, teaching, social facilities and staff accommodation sits like a new hillside crag allowing unparalleled views South over St Johns in the Vale to Helvellyn. Designed around a core teaching space an outer zone of circulation and informal teaching spaces are orientated to the various distant peaks and geographical features. Incorporating an existing stream as a feature the building incorporates a heavy weight core with lightweight frame construction around the perimeter clad with coloured stainless steel panels matching the seasonal colours of the hillside vegetation.
